The epidermis is a stratified squamous epithelium. It has stacked layers of cells. Below the epidermis lies the dermis and below that we find the subcutaneous fat, or sub cutis. Dozens of different skin infections exist, with huge variation in symptoms and severity. Some of the most common skin conditions include Contact #allergies, #Alopecia, #Psoriasis, #Blistering disorders, #Rashes, #Atopic Dermatitis.

Track 4: Allergy

Allergies, also known as #allergic diseases, are a number of conditions caused by hypersensitivity of the immune system to something in the environment that usually causes little or no problem in most people. These diseases include #hay fever, #food allergies, atopic dermatitis, #allergic asthma, and #anaphylaxis. Symptoms may include red eyes, an #itchy rash, runny nose, shortness of breath, or swelling. Food intolerances and #food poisoning are separate conditions.

Common allergens include #pollen and certain food. Metals and other substances may also cause problems. Food, insect stings, and medications are common causes of severe reactions. Their development is due to both genetic and environmental factors. The underlying mechanism involves immunoglobulin E antibodies (IgE), part of the body's #immune system, binding to an allergen and then to a receptor on mast cells or basophils where it triggers the release of inflammatory chemicals such as histamine.

The major advantage of recent years is the high scientific levels of the most significant new developments in techniques and #pharmacotherapy and other #nonsurgical approaches like Laser resurfacing, Sclerotherapy, Soft tissue augmentation. With an aging population and increasing consumer awareness, demand for high-quality, innovative cosmeceutical products will be on the rise in 2014.

In fact, Global Information, an information service company that partners with research firms worldwide, recently released statistics that stated that the global cosmeceuticals market should reach $31.84 billion by 2016. According to another report released by Medical Insight, the total retail sales of home-use devices and disposables are expected to rise by 11.4 percent per year to exceed $1.5 billion in 2017.

Skin Pharmacology and Physiology is a peer-reviewed medical journal and an official journal of the Society for #Dermopharmacy. It was established in 1988 under the title Skin Pharmacology, renamed to Skin Pharmacology and Applied Skin Physiology in 1998, and obtained its current title in 2003.

Toxicology is a branch of #biology, #chemistry, and #medicine (more specifically pharmacology) concerned with the study of the adverse effects of chemicals on living organisms. It also studies the harmful effects of #chemical, #biological and #physical agents in biological systems that establishes the extent of damage in living organisms.

Track 8: Investigative Dermatology

Investigative dermatology is a branch of scientific research that deals exclusively with #skin biology and #different skin, nail, and #scalp conditions. Investigative dermatologists are doctors who devote their careers not to patient interaction, but rather to pharmaceutical or treatment-based research. Research into skin conditions, cures, and new medicines is the mainstay of investigative dermatology work. The scientists in dermatology labs study problems with #nails, #skin irritations, and scalp conditions, among other things. They look for medical treatments and cures by experimenting with chemical compounds, running test groups and medical trials, and often doing research on animals. One of their main goals is to use science to get to the bottom of human skin problems. The work done in #investigative dermatology labs furthers two distinct, but related goals. First, it furthers medical knowledge, keeping the field of dermatology sharp and cutting-edge. Second, it promotes the quality of life of skin care patients by striving to understand new conditions and seeking always to provide the fastest, most effective relief. Many skin lotions and creams — certainly all of those available only with a prescription — are products of pharmaceutical and consumer-facing organizations.

A psychodermatologic disorder is a condition that involves an interaction between the #mind and #skin. Psychodermatologic disorders fall into three categories:-

Psychophysiologic disorders or psychosomatic disorder, are of two types: #primary psychiatric disorders and #secondary psychiatric disorders. Psychophysiologic disorders (psoriasis and eczema) are associated with skin problems that are not directly connected to the mind but that react to emotional states, such as stress. Primary psychiatric disorders involve #psychiatric conditions that results in self-induced cutaneous manifestations, such as trichotillomania and delusions of #parasitosis. Secondary psychiatric disorders are associated with disfiguring #skin disorders. The disfigurement results in psychologic problems, such as decreased self-esteem, #depression or #social phobia. Most psychodermatologic disorders can be treated with anxiety-decreasing techniques or, in extreme cases, psychotropic medications.

The National Cancer Institute estimates that close to 68,700 Americans are diagnosed with melanoma a year; in 2009, melanoma claimed the lives of more than 8,650 Americans. The #Dermatologic and Laser Surgery Unit focuses on skin conditions amenable to surgical or laser intervention. It provides the highest cure rate for selected #tumors and permits immediate reconstruction for the convenience of the patient.

Allied Academics welcomes you to join  World Dermatologist Summit and Skin care Expo scheduled on 30 -31 October 2017 Toronto, Canada.

Importance & Scope of Dermatology in Global Health

Since dermatology is not a leading cause of mortality it is not usually thought of as a major health issue in developing countries.  However dermatology is extremely common, up to 21-87% of the population may be affected by some type of dermatological disease, depending on the locale.  It also contributes to significant physical and psychological disabilities. These disabilities have been measured by a number of life quality measures but the importance of skin health is often underestimated because of the chronic, non-life threatening nature of most dermatological diseases. Disfigurement and discomfort associated with skin problems make them among the main reasons people seek medical care and are the cause of approximately 24% of primary care visits.

About venue

World Dermatologist Summit 2017 to be held in Toronto, Canada. Toronto, the capital of the province of Toronto, is a major Canadian city along Lake Ontario’s northwestern shore.  A glance about Dermatology Industry:

The Dermatology industry has increasingly expanded into cosmetic dermatology, with more dermatologists offering anti-aging procedures such as dermabrasion, laser treatments, and Botox. These treatments have proven to be a high-growth sector for the industry and have contributed to the industry's consistently high-profit margins. During the next five years, dermatology industry revenue is expected to grow. Steadily falling unemployment and the continued implementation of health care reform will yield greater insurance coverage for Americans, increasing demand for dermatologist offices. The baby boomer generation especially will generate a large portion of demand, particularly for skin cancer screenings and anti-aging procedures.
